Quick question about checking brake pad thickness without a mechanic
Thomasburrows
I'm trying to learn a bit more about my car so I don't keep running to a garage for every little thing, and I was wondering if there's a simple way for a regular person to visually check how much life is left on their brake pads without lifting the car. I've watched a few videos but honestly most of them assume you have professional tools or a proper jack, which I don't. I was looking at a site earlier to try and view details about the different types of wear indicators and what to look for, but it got me thinking whether you can actually see the pad material through the wheel spokes on most cars. Mine has pretty open alloy wheels so maybe I can? Also curious how often people here actually check theirs because I feel like I always wait until I hear that horrible metal on metal sound which is probably way too late. Any tips for a beginner would be awesome.
